St. Maarten will welcome Virgin Voyages on its inaugural call this December, marking a significant development in St. Maarten’s tourism and cruise industry, said Grisha Heyliger-Marten, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT).
The inaugural cruise, launching on December 8, 2024, will include stops at some of the Caribbean’s most picturesque ports, while additional calls to St. Maarten are planned for December 20 and 22, with voyages scheduled for January 3, 31, and February 10.
According to the Minister, this milestone is part of a broader strategy to enhance St. Maarten’s position as a premier destination in the Caribbean, particularly for exclusive, high-value travelers.
“We are excited to welcome Virgin Voyages to St. Maarten,” Heyliger-Marten said. “This partnership represents a significant step in our efforts to position St. Maarten as a top destination for exclusive cruising experiences and future home porting opportunities. The reopening of our airport on October 8, 2024, is a critical component of this strategy, ensuring seamless connectivity for travelers.”
The Minister revealed plans to attract Virgin Atlantic Airways to St. Maarten, in a bid to boost the number of UK visitors. She said this initiative is part of the vision to establish St. Maarten as a premier homeporting destination, particularly for an exclusive segment of the cruise market.
The CEO of Port St. Maarten Group of companies, Alex Gumbs, said: “The arrival of Virgin Voyages is a testament to the hard work and strategic planning that has gone into making St. Maarten a key player in the Caribbean cruise industry.
“We are not just welcoming another cruise line; we are welcoming a partner that aligns with our vision for growth, sustainability, and exclusivity in the tourism sector.”
Virgin Voyages offers an exclusive, adults-only experience tailored to travelers aged 35-55 who are active, vibrant, and seek unique adventures. The cruise line is recognized for its commitment to authentic, smaller tours, providing intimate and immersive experiences that set it apart in the industry.
The arrival of Virgin Voyages is expected to significantly contribute to the St. Maarten tourism industry, bringing in high-value visitors who seek more than just a typical cruise experience.
