Minister Grisha Heyliger-Marten Asks PSG to Beautify Harbor Entrance

“My vision is to develop a well-rounded tourism product that prioritizes not only exceptional service but also a welcoming atmosphere and aesthetically pleasing surroundings,” said Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication, Grisha Heyliger-Marten in a recent letter to Port St. Maarten Group of companies (PSG).

The Minister was drawing attention to the entrance to the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities, which she believes needs to be spruced up as part of the overall beautification plan for Philipsburg.

The Minister noted that overgrown vegetation, in some cases encroaching on pedestrian walkways, creates an uninviting sight for both St. Maarten people and tourists.

“With the upcoming tourist season and the prestigious FCCA conference scheduled for October, I believe it is imperative that we prioritize the beautification of the harbor entrance,” said Heyliger-Marten, adding, “I propose that you complete landscaping improvements along the entire walk path leading up to Dock Maarten.”

Minister Heyliger-Marten also requested PSG’s attention to the area around the national monument, the St. Peters Battery. “While cleaning this area is essential, I urge that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure the historical significance of the site is preserved,” she said.

“I am confident that by working together, we can create a visually appealing and welcoming entrance for the harbor, further enhancing the overall experience for visitors,” Heyliger-Marten added.
