Ministry of VROMI and Nature Foundation Invite Public to Celebrate World Mangrove Day

The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) and the Nature Foundation are excited to invite the community to celebrate World Mangrove Day on Saturday, July 27, 2024. This event is an opportunity to learn about the crucial role mangroves play in our ecosystem and to experience them firsthand. 

Event Highlights: 

The day will commence with presentations by Minister Patrice Gumbs and environmental experts on the significance of mangroves in combating climate change, protecting coastlines, and supporting biodiversity. Following the presentations, participants will be taken on a boat tour of the mangroves in the Simpson Bay Lagoon, offering a unique chance to observe these vital ecosystems up close.

Location: Simpson Bay Yacht Club Marina (in the new IGY building, behind Top Carrot) 

 
Registration Information: 

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, participants must register for the event. Space is limited, and priority will be given to residents who are unfamiliar with the lagoon or mangroves.

About World Mangrove Day: 

International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, celebrated annually on July 26, aims to raise awareness about the unique, special, and vulnerable nature of mangrove ecosystems, and to promote their sustainable management and conservation. To accommodate more attendees, this year's event will be held on Saturday, July 27.
