Join The Fun At Simpson Bay Skatepark
Every Tuesday at the Simpson Bay basketball court, people of all ages come out to skate from 6pm to 8pm. From beginners to advance skaters, if you’re looking for a fun and open environment to expand your skills, this is the place to be. Free skateboards are available for those who wish to join.
The community started to grow when Star Peterson and Veronica Perez decided to spread the news of their skate sessions. Skaters found a place they can come to learn, explore obstacles, and challenge themselves. Now the park has over 30 members and is still growing.
“If you’re uncomfortable with failing, skateboarding is a good activity for you, because you can come to a space where people fail all the time” says Star. “From the best to newest, everyone learns to fall and get back up. It’s a teaching community. If you’re trying to learn something, someone is always open to help and teach you”.
“Not only is skateboarding fun to do, but it’s a great exercise.” says one of the skaters, Nariesha Wilson, “It makes me feel free and I love that feeling, the thrill, and the people around me who encourage me to keep going and be better”
Skateboarding offers an exceptional form of exercise. Skateboarding helps to develop balance, coordination and agility while also improving strength and endurance. Skating can help improve posture by using different muscles in the body, including the core and leg muscles.
Furthermore, it engages a variety of muscle groups which strengthens the entire body as well as the heart. Since skateboarding is an outdoor activity, it also provides you with a great way to get some fresh air while getting your exercise in.
If you love to skate, or have been thinking about getting into it, come join the community of skaters at the weekly skate sesh. From beginner to advanced, everyone is welcomed to come out each Tuesday and enjoy a fun time on the ramps.
