It's Time SXM Foundation Hosts NYE Senior Celebration in Collaboration with Helping Hands Foundation
As 2022 drew to a close, It's Time SXM Foundation ended its year-long series of community-building events and activities by hosting a grand New Year's Eve (NYE) Celebration to recognize senior citizens. This event was held in partnership with the Helping Hands Foundation and the St. Maarten Lions Club on December 30, 2022, at the Senior Recreational Center in Hope Estate.
"Many seniors spend the holidays alone, sick and/or shut-in. Several are silently depressed, particularly during the festive Christmas season. Therefore, we were extremely proud to step up to the plate and work along with these highly esteemed organizations to celebrate our senior citizens. As we mark the beginning of a new year, this great occasion was held to celebrate those seniors who have dedicated their entire lives to building the traditions and communities that we enjoy today. We're truly grateful for these opportunities to salute all our senior citizens!" shared Ohndhae Cloyd Marlin, President, It's Time SXM Foundation.
Hundreds of seniors were in attendance at the event. The Seniors NYE Celebration featured lively entertainment by DJ Ruby, Benjamin Bell, Shanella James, and Family String Band, which moved many to get up and dance. Additionally, Roberto Arrindell graced the stage to share an engaging rendition of his poetry and Cloyd Marlin shared inspirational words of gratitude and uplifting encouragement throughout the event.
Food and drinks were provided in abundance, sponsored by Kreative Juices and It's Time SXM Foundation. The dinner included a welcome fruit bowl and drink, followed by soup - with a choice of oyster or chicken soup. The main course was comprised of a delectable selection of local dishes such as rice and peas, smoke herring rice, scalloped potato, steamed vegetables, roasted chicken, stewed beef, fish filet, crab salad, and coleslaw. Food was served by the lions club of st Maarten.
Furthermore, in the season of giving, a variety of gifts and prizes were presented to the seniors in attendance.
"The smiles showed brightly on their faces and you could see their revived spirits come alive. It was apparent that the seniors thoroughly enjoyed the entire event," says Marlin.
The Seniors NYE Celebration was an enjoyable and memorable occasion. It's Time SXM Foundation remains dedicated to reaching into our communities and building a better, brighter, and stronger St. Martin. For further information, please follow/like the Facebook page, It's Time Foundation.
