Flea Market Plus
Philipsburg: The Department of Community Development, Family & Humanitarian Affairs in collaboration with the Sint Maarten Social Worker’s Association proudly presents their first ever multiannual Flea Market plus. The event will be held at the Gaston Boasman Help Desk for the Elderly & Disabled and Women’s Desk Hope Estate, on Saturday, December 3 from 10 am to 2 pm.
This Market Place has two purposes: 1) it is a fundraiser for the association, and 2) it provides an opportunity to give back to the community by selling brand-new and gently used products. In addition, social workers will provide 15 minutes of free yoga and 15 minutes of ideas for families on how to connect with their children.
As we approach the Christmas season it is time to give back. It’s also a time when people look forward to making some changes around their homes, purchasing gifts, etc. and when this cannot be accomplished it creates an enormous amount of stress on individuals, families, and communities. The marketplace will offer people merchandise at extremely affordable prices that will enable all in attendance to purchase something.
The community of Sint Maarten has been through many challenges in the past 2-5 years from Hurricane Irma & Maria and the COVID pandemic. Persons have lost their job, reduced income, rising inflation, increase Mental Health challenges, and the list goes on resulting in persons finding it difficult to cope. A Yoga relaxation session can help to re-center the mind and body to be able to continue the journey.
The Social Workers Association is a non-profit organization and as such does not have funds readily available to carry out projects for the community. The Association is grateful to various agencies who over the years have supported and collaborated to be able to give back to the Community.
