4 Leaf Rover looks to help over 300 dogs on St. Maarten

PHILIPSBURG -- Dr. Susan Burkhart and Lead Organizer, Eddie Lee, plans on bringing 4 veterinarians from the 4 Leaf Rover organization to St. Maarten in order spay and neuter 300+ dogs - continuing their mission just as they successfully completed in Turks and Caicos earlier this year. “I hope to meet someone in the government when I return to the island November 12-19,” Lee says, hoping to get the government’s permission and public support to help the animals living on the streets.

When 4 Leaf Rover started, it was inspired by a trip taken by Dr. Burkhart to the Turks & Caicos Islands in December of 2020. There she witnessed the harsh conditions under which homeless dogs, known as Potcakes (a name given to mixed breed dogs derived from the overcooked rice that cakes to the bottom of the pot that is frequently fed to them), are forced to survive. She instantly fell in love with this unique, intelligent, and resilient dog breed and set out to make a difference in their lives.

4 Leaf Rover was created with the goal of improving the lives of dogs and cats that are lacking the most basic necessities. With this in mind, they host spay/neuter and medical clinics, find forever homes, and provide food and basic supplies to improve the quality of life and chance of survival for these forgotten animals.

The team is made up of animal lovers from all walks of life who have joined forces to change the bad luck of good dogs and cats around the world.

To carry out their work, they are hoping to raise around $20k, including the funds that will be coming out of pocket. With the public’s generous contributions, 4 Leaf Rover will be able to bring help to areas where the need is greatest by hosting spay/neuter and wellness clinics, and transporting animals in need back to the United States.
