LU’s aviation day in keeping with new school year theme
As creative as ever, the Learning Unlimited Preparatory School (LUPS or LU), chose a school theme for the 2022-2033 academic year that would be both inspirational and give the school opportunities throughout the year to have some productive fun with them theme.
In choosing the theme “Learning Takes You Places”, the school took the nuances of airline travel, and placed some throughout the school. When arriving at the school for example, students enter the “departure hall”. There are several such named areas around the school synonymous with airports and travel.
The school also recently held an aviation day in its gymnasium with the goal being to inspire students to explore career options in the exciting field of aviation. The event was staffed by a broad cross section of professionals from the aviation industry including commercial, private, and helicopter pilots and an air traffic controller.
These aviation professionals gave presentations to students about their careers and skills required to be successful in these vocations. The event was wholly interactive and the students were delighted to receive hands-on interaction with various components of an aircraft from the function of ailerons to the artificial horizon.
In addition, they were shown videos of take offs, landings, life inside the cockpit and the highly sensitive job of an air traffic controller. Students also enjoyed the mechanical tools the airline professionals brought with them and the interaction received on so many levels from the aviation team.
Many students were dressed like aviation personnel with fitted costumes ranging from flight crew to ground personnel and all jobs in between. LU wishes to thank all the pilots and an air traffic controller who were part of our Aviation Day Expo: Reynaldo Richards, Captain Steve Radican, Captain Micheal Ferrier, Captain Martin Derrick, Captain Robert Schrijvers, Captain Gabriel Amado, First Officer Devin Ramkissoon, First Officer Jozua Baker, First Officer Avant Baker and First Officer Gustav Arrondell.
