October 16 marks World Food Day – Leave NO ONE behind
GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – World Food Day (WFD) will be marked around the globe on Sunday, October 16 under the theme, “Leave NO ONE behind.”
According to the United Nations (UN) Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), “2022 finds us with an ongoing pandemic, conflicts, a climate that won’t stop warming, rising prices and international tensions.
“This is affecting global food security. We need to build a sustainable world where everyone, everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food. No one should be left behind.”
The FAO added that collective action across 150 countries is what makes World Food Day one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar.
Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department from the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, as part of its annual public health calendar of observances, calls on the public to work on planting their fruits and vegetables in their backyard to support growing and nourishing a healthier diet as part of Sint Maarten’s contribution to a sustainable community.
CPS calls on the community to support local food producers that would ensure better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.
