St. Maarten Swim Team competes in the 32nd 2024 O.E.C.S. Swimming Championships
SMAF is proud of our swimming athletes who represented St. Maarten well in the 32nd annual O.E.C.S. (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) Swimming Championships. The selected team travelled with Coach Eline Broere. Our local swimmers won the majority of their heats and improved on their personal swim times. Kjeld van der Meer won a silver and bronze medal and Mila van Baalen won a bronze medal. The swimmers had the opportunity to also witness 9 past Olympiads from different participating islands taking part in the Championships from the older male and female age groups. This is an inspiration for our younger swimmers, that they too can achieve success in swimming on the highest level and become a future Olympiad swimmer as well. The annual event was held on November 8 to the 10 and it was held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The participating countries were Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia,. St. Maarten and St. Martin, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and the host country St. Vincent & the Grenadines. SMAF will like to thank Brooks & Associates, ProPhysio for sponsoring our team. We will also like to thank the parents and board members for travelling with the team.
