Businesses Join to Support Helping Hands Foundation's Golden-Age Fundraising Walk-A-Thon this Saturday, July 8
The excitement is brewing for the upcoming “Golden Age Walk-A-Thon” being organized by Helping Hands Foundation on Saturday, July 8th. The Foundation has received a great outpouring of community support thus far and is looking forward to achieving its fundraising goals through continued sponsorships and ticket sales. Several businesses and diverse individuals have come to the forefront to fulfill their civic and corporate responsibilities, in support of St. Maarten's beloved seniors who are often left out of community initiatives.
The generous contributors include KFC, who sponsored the t-shirts. Also, a hearty breakfast is being sponsored by Kreative Juices and It's Time St. Maarten Foundation. In addition, students of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have been actively hosting various fundraisers on/off campus to contribute to the Foundation and consequently, also to the island's senior citizens. The support from other sponsors, including Windward Islands Bank, PRIME, Carl & Sons, and IMBRACE Group have also been instrumental in the organization of this highly-anticipated community walk-a-thon.
"We are truly grateful for the tremendous support received thus far and appeal to the community to continue to contribute directly to the Foundation, purchase tickets to "sponsor a senior" and/or come out in large numbers to join in the fun!" shared Mr. Rogers, President, Helping Hands Foundation.
Helping Hands Foundation is a long-standing community organization that provides critical transportation services and social programs for senior citizens and disabled persons throughout St. Maarten.
Themed, "Golden Age Fundraising Walk-A-Thon," this event is destined to engage senior citizens, the pillars of our community, along with family, friends, businesses, and the general public in an interactive and health-focused fun day. Breakfast and refreshments will be provided. At the end of the Walk-A-Thon, senior-friendly exercises and health tips for aging gracefully will be presented by students of the AUC.
Tickets can be purchased by KFC and t-shirts can be acquired by the Helping Hands Foundation office, or, on-site at the St. Martin Home between 4:30 - 5:00 AM this Saturday, prior to the Walk-A-Thon.
The Golden Age Walk-A-Thon starts at 5:00 AM at the St. Martin Home in St. John's Estate. There is a change in the route to accommodate the seniors: after leaving the St. Martin Home the walk-a-thon treads down L.B. Scott Road, to the Carrefour round-a-bout, down to the Bush Road. At Prins Bernard Bridge (traffic light), turn right to the car dealership. The route would then cross over to the Pondfill and up to the Salt Pickers round-a-bout by the Police Station. At that point the group would then turn around to head back down the Pondfill, onto A.T. Illidge Road, then make a right to Coralita Road and cut through back onto L.B. Scott Road, ending at the St. Martin Home in St. John's Estate. Breakfast will be served upon arrival back to St. Martin Home.
Helping Hands Foundation is calling upon the entire community of St. Maarten/ St. Martin to support the Golden Age Fundraising Walk-A-Thon in large numbers. Community support can be extended in any of the following manners, as outlined below:
- through a direct financial and/or in-kind contribution to sponsor the Foundation's initiatives,
- by purchasing tickets at Helping Hands Foundation or KFC, with which you get a t-shirt to participate in the Walk-A-Thon, as well as breakfast after the walk.
- by "sponsoring a senior" to allow those elders with financial constraints to participate in the Golden Age Fundraising Walk-A-Thon, at no additional expense. Companies can also sponsor by purchasing a number of tickets for our seniors.
Thanks to the community's generous outpouring of support the Golden Age Walk-A-Thon will provide great benefits to St. Maarten's beloved senior citizens and everyone in attendance.
