GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – World AIDS Day is observed each year on December 1st. The theme is: “Equalize.” The equalize slogan is a call to action.

According to UNAIDS, the inequalities which perpetuate the AIDS epidemic are not inevitable, and they can be tackled. UNAIDS is urging each one of us to address the inequalities which are holding back progress in ending AIDS.

The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (Ministry VSA), which includes World AIDS Day as part of its calendar of annual observances, has joined forces with Kooyman along with other stakeholders to organize the “Color Walk ’22.”

The “Color Walk ‘22” will take place on Sunday, December 11 at 5:00 AM until 9:00 AM. The route will be from the Kooyman parking lot to the CPS office at the Vineyard Building in Philipsburg.

During the cool down session at CPS, breakfast will be provided; a health and HIV screening will be available from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

Participants will receive a package with a T-Shirt, and a Backpack with water and a colour powder pack plus free giveaways once they complete registration. The package can be picked up on December 3 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the offices of CPS, Vineyard Building.

Persons interested in participating must register starting on Saturday, November 19 at Kooyman between 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and during the week of Monday, November 21 to Sunday, November 27 during the same time or on Saturday, November 26 at CostPro.

The internationally observed day provides an opportunity to raise awareness, educate and improve a greater understanding of HIV as a global public health issue.

CPS encourages the community to educate and inform themselves about the latest developments related to AIDS and HIV. It is also important for the community to be supportive and not discriminate against persons living with HIV AIDS or any other diseases.
