51 confirmed COVID-19 cases today

he Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, Omar Ottley hereby extends his sympathy and prayers to the families and friends of the three persons who has succumbed to COVID-19 over the weekend. Minister Ottley wishes the family peace and healing during this time.

As of August 9th, there were fifty one (51) persons who tested positive for COVID-19. There was no recoveries recorded today. The total active cases has increased to two hundred fifty eight (258). The total number of confirmed cases is now three thousand one (3001).

The Collective Prevention Services (CPS) are monitoring two hundred forty six (246) people are in home isolation. Twelve (12) patients are hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has increased to thirty seven (37).

The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten remains at two thousand seven hundred six (2706). Two hundred twenty three (223) people are in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.

The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (VSA) Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory Sint Maarten (HCLS) have tested 3, 507 travelers arriving at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), while CPS tested 37, 841 people throughout the community. As the numbers continue to fluctuate, CPS will continue to actively execute its contact tracing measures.

CPS has reported an increase in the volume of testing. Minister Ottley would like to thank all persons who came out for safety testing and encourages the public to continue and test to know your status
